Gazprom and China’s CNPC sign document for additional supplies of Russian gas to be carried out via eastern route until end of 2023
“With regard to all matters of cooperation in the gas sector, the negotiations were very constructive and substantive. Throughout the current year, the volumes of gas supplies via Power of Siberia have already risen by 46.6 per cent versus the same period of last year. Gazprom is ready to further ramp up the supplies and reliably provide its Chinese partners with natural gas via the agreed routes”.
Alexey Miller: Russian-Chinese partnership in gas sector having shared vision at its core and offering huge development potential for benefit of these two countries
Today, Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, took part in the third roundtable on cooperation in the energy sector organized by China's CNPC as part of the high-level Third Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation in Beijing.
Alexey Miller highlighted that it is constructive and mutually beneficial cooperation, underpinned by a realistic understanding of the energy sector development, that is now becoming the most topical item on the global energy agenda.
According to experts, global GDP will grow more than twofold by 2050. Economic growth will drive an increase in the demand for energy, which is going to rise by more than 20 per cent by the middle of this century. The significance of natural gas will continue increasing as well: by 2050, its share in the global energy mix will be as large as 26 per cent, and it will become the leader among all other energy sources.
The prospects of the growth in gas consumption are associated mainly with Asia. The main driving force behind this growth will be China with its dynamic and fast-growing economy. Within quite a short period of time, from 2016 to 2022, the demand for gas in China almost doubled, reaching 370 billion cubic meters, i.e. rose by more than 160 billion cubic meters. This is comparable to the aggregate volume of gas consumed in 2022 by Germany and the UK, who are the largest gas consumers in Europe. What is more, expert forecasts indicate that China's gas consumption will show another almost twofold increase in the period to 2040.
Gazprom commences construction of Russia’s largest specialized foundry complex
“Today, we are celebrating a milestone event in the power machinery industry of our country. Today, Gazprom is commencing the active phase of the construction of the specialized foundry complex where we will produce key gas turbine components that are very hard-to-manufacture.
It will be a very high-tech production providing a full range of foundry works for the manufacture of the blades, a high-quality and highly research-intensive production. The enterprise will be fully supplied with orders, and will employ more than 500 people.
The new production is a very important step toward strengthening our domestic competencies and reinforcing the technological sovereignty of our country”.
Ceremony held for launch of Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan across Kazakhstan
“Today, we are celebrating an event that is important for the gas sector. A landmark event. Today, we give a new life to the Central Asia – Center gas trunkline system. For the first time ever, Russian gas will be supplied to Uzbekistan in reverse flow.
As soon as the contracts for the supply and transit of gas were signed in the middle of June this year, we commenced intensive work. Repair and restoration activities, technical upgrade, reconstruction and new construction works were performed at the section of 1,760 kilometers in length in the territory of Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Those works were completed within the shortest possible time, in just 3.5 months.
And we will further develop our long-term and mutually beneficial cooperation in the gas sector”.
