KAMAZ continuing creation of new NGV models for Gazprom’s needs

RELEASE

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Sergey Kogogin, Director General of KAMAZ, took place today at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2023.

It was noted that the parties have been maintaining a constructive cooperation for many years, first of all, in the creation of cars and machinery powered by natural gas, which is the most cost-effective and eco-friendly motor fuel.

In 2014, KAMAZ, at the initiative of Gazprom, launched the batch production of natural gas-fueled transport and machinery. Today, the product line offered by the company includes about 130 models of trucks, buses and municipal vehicles powered by natural gas. These products are in high demand in the Russian market.

Gazprom continues to purchase NGVs from KAMAZ for the needs of the Company's subsidiaries and entities. For instance, 3,700 NGVs have been purchased in 2014–2023, including the first batch of all-wheel drive KAMAZ-6250 buses for shift personnel, which was delivered to Gazprom's subsidiaries in 2023. The bus model, which had been developed specially for Gazprom, is adapted for operation even in the conditions of the Far North. In 2024, another batch of these buses will be delivered to the subsidiaries.

The parties continue the work to create new NGV models to serve the needs of Gazprom.

On display at SPIGF 2023 is a prototype of the NEFAZ-5222 suburban bus produced by KAMAZ. The bus is equipped with a fuel system that runs on compressed natural gas and has a designed passenger capacity of 41 persons.

The KAMAZ-62501 mobile workshop truck powered by LNG is another prototype of the machinery produced by KAMAZ which is currently on display at the Forum. The truck model, which was custom-made for Gazprom, is designed for deployment at facilities that are located considerably away from stationary repair bases.

Background

St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2023 (SPIGF 2023) is being held at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 31 to November 3.

Gazprom carries out extensive work to develop Russia's NGV market. For instance, Gazprom has agreements with the largest automakers to include natural gas-powered models into their product lines.

In June 2015, Gazprom and KAMAZ signed the Agreement on strategic areas of cooperation for the wider use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel.

The KAMAZ Group of Companies is the largest automotive corporation in the Russian Federation. Currently, KAMAZ is implementing a program for the development and manufacturing of NGVs and takes active part in governmental programs aiming to develop the NGV market.

In October 2022, Gazprom and KAMAZ signed the Agreement of Cooperation for the supply of a new range of all-wheel drive models by KAMAZ. According to the document, in 2023–2025, KAMAZ will produce and in a stepwise manner deliver to Gazprom's subsidiaries 420 buses for shift personnel of the KAMAZ-6250 model and 80 mobile workshop trucks of the KAMAZ-62501 model.

The Agreement of Cooperation was signed by Gazprom and КАМАZ at SPIGF 2023. The parties agreed on the supplies of new models of large-sized suburban and intercity buses to serve the needs of Gazprom. All of these vehicles will be natural gas-powered. The buses will be used for the transportation of employees to the working places that are located considerably away from the available public transport infrastructure. It is planned that KAMAZ will produce and in a stepwise manner deliver to Gazprom's subsidiaries 400 NGVs until 2029.
