Gazprom and Government of Uzbekistan sign Strategic Memorandum of Cooperation in energy complex

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Uzbekistan, took place at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2023.

The parties discussed their current and prospective interaction. In particular, the meeting addressed Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan across Kazakhstan which had been launched in October this year. It was highlighted that the dedicated route functioning on the basis of the Central Asia – Center gas trunkline system is of great significance for the provision of stable energy supplies to the consumers of Uzbekistan, which is a task especially important in the autumn/winter period.

The Strategic Memorandum of Cooperation in the energy complex was signed at the meeting by Alexey Miller and Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov. Pursuant to the document, the parties intend to expand their cooperation in gas supplies and transportation, as well as in geological exploration and production of hydrocarbons.

Background

St. Petersburg International Gas Forum 2023 is being held at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre from October 31 to November 3.

In June 2023, Gazprom and the Republic of Uzbekistan signed the Contract for Russian gas supplies to Uzbekistan and the Roadmap for preparing the gas transmission system of Uzbekistan for the reception and transmission of Russian pipeline gas.

In October 2023, the ceremony was held to mark the start of Russian natural gas supplies to the consumers of the Republic of Uzbekistan across the Republic of Kazakhstan. Taking part in the event were Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation, Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and Shavkat Mirziyoev, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
