Gazprom making systematic efforts for occupational, industrial, fire and environmental safety

RELEASE

The Gazprom Board of Directors reviewed and commended the Company’s ongoing efforts in the field of occupational, industrial and fire safety and environmental protection.

In accordance with its Occupational and Industrial Safety Policy, the Company provides safe working conditions for its employees and complies with all legal requirements to labor safety. Gazprom’s Integrated System of Occupational and Industrial Safety Management, currently in successful operation, was certified for compliance with the OHSAS 18001:2007 international standard.

The Company takes measures to improve the working conditions of its employees. Between 2012 and 2016, the number of workplaces in harmful and dangerous environments across Gazprom was reduced by more than one and a half times.

Gazprom makes continuous efforts to prevent workplace injuries. Throughout 2016, which was declared the Year of Occupational Safety at the Company, upward of 330,000 employees from 112 subsidiaries and 400 contracting organizations took part in over 700 events aimed at fostering the industrial safety culture.

The Company undertakes comprehensive actions for environmental protection in the regions of its operation. Gazprom was one of the first companies in Russia to devise its own Environmental Policy. The Policy defines the guiding principle behind Gazprom’s work as dynamic economic development coupled with maximum efficiency in natural resources management and environmental conservation.

Pursuant to the Company’s Environmental Policy, Gazprom has an efficient environmental management system certified under the ISO 14001:2004 international standard. All of the Company’s investment projects are subject to mandatory corporate environmental reviews. Moreover, Gazprom is the only Russian company that has an in-house Environmental Inspectorate. In 2016 alone, the Inspectorate conducted 494 environmental compliance inspections at the Company’s facilities.

Gazprom consistently works to mitigate its environmental impacts. Specifically, the Company takes steps to cut down on its pollutant and greenhouse gas emissions, as well as fuel and energy consumption for process needs.

In addition to mandatory activities, a large number of voluntary initiatives are implemented. In that context, Gazprom named 2013 the Year of Ecology, 2014 the Year of Environmental Culture, and 2015 the Green Year. The Company continues that practice by declaring 2017 the Year of Ecology. More than 8,500 events are planned for that period.

The Company’s achievements in environmental protection are reflected in independent public ratings. In 2016, the Carbon Disclosure Project international organization for the fifth time in a row named Gazprom the best Russian energy company in terms of corporate climate reporting and greenhouse gas reduction strategy. Furthermore, Gazprom for three consecutive years took one of the top positions in the Environmental responsibility rating of oil & gas companies in Russia.

The Board of Directors also addressed the issue of quarterly reports on the implementation of Gazprom’s Long-Term Development Program and key performance indicators.
