A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Michael Fallon, Business and Energy Minister of the UK took place today as part of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2013.

The parties addressed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. In particular, Alexey Miller and Michael Fallon discussed the prospects for boosting Russian natural gas supplies to the UK market.

“We are interested in boosting Russian natural gas supplies to the UK market and we hope for deeper cooperation in gas storage, power generation and infrastructure projects,” said Michael Fallon.

Background

In 2012 Gazprom Group supplied the UK with 11.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas.

Gazprom has been engaged in natural gas spot trading in the UK since 1999, actively boosting gas supplies to the UK market.

In addition, Gazprom through its wholly-owned subsidiary Gazprom Marketing & Trading delivers gas and electricity to the ultimate consumers in the UK market. In 2012 supplies totaled 3.0 billion cubic meters and 1.8 TWh respectively.
