Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Viktor Nazarov, Governor of the Omsk Region took part today in the groundbreaking ceremony for the Avangard Hockey Academy sports complex in Omsk.
“In May we promised that in the nearest future Gazprom would start the construction of several sports complexes in Omsk. We keep our promise. Our first step is the start of the Avangard Hockey Academy construction.
At the moment, there are good facilities for the children and youth training at the Club – about a thousand trainees attend the Avangard Junior Sports School. We intend to take this work to a new level and set up a veritable school-based hockey academy with a well-developed infrastructure in Omsk with branches in a number of other regions.
Creation of the Hockey Academy will considerably enhance the possibilities for training a decent reserve squad for the national team,” Alexey Miller said.
The sports complex will comprise an ice arena meeting the International Ice Hockey Federation standards and a campus for trainees from other locations. It is Gazprom Group that fully sponsors construction of the complex.
Background
Creation of the Avangard Hockey Academy will enable to deploy a system of young sportsmen training and engage young people in sports not only in the Omsk Region, but in other regions as well. For example, construction of a hockey center, which will serve as a basis for the Academy branch in Noyabrsk, is scheduled for 2013.
Moreover, the Company is planning to build two sports and health centers in the Omsk Region as part of the Gazprom for Children program.
