Gazprom and Siemens AG sign Memorandum of Understanding

Today within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2010 Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom, and Peter Löscher, President and Chief Executive Officer of Siemens AG signed a Memorandum of Understanding on coopeation in the field of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

According to the document, the parties will examine the possibility of using Siemens equipment at the pilot LNG production until being constructed as well as of manufacturing Siemens compressors, drives and electrical equipment at Russian plants. In addition, the companies will conduct research as part of work at the second and third stages of the Shtokman gas and condensate field development.

“Siemens AG is the world leader in energy machinery development. We are glad to cooperate with this company in new and promising areas. We hope that the Memorandum signed today will open up good opportunities for Gazprom and Siemens to carry out important and urgent tasks such as technical support for the Russian LNG projects and domestic production of the equipment required for the LNG plants” noted Alexey Miller.

We are actively developing our business in Russia by making large investments in local facilities along with implementing energy-efficient and environmentally friendly technologies. Gazprom is a long-term partner. Today we have taken another step to strengthen our cooperation in a strategic area” said Peter Löscher.

Background

Gazprom and Siemens have been actively cooperating since 1993 within telecommunications and process automation projects. In particular, the companies created the Moscow digital communication zone and data transmission network of Gazprom svyaz, the automatic telephone exchange network of Gazprom transgaz Makhachkala, the communications network of Gaztelecom, as well as automated the comprehensive gas treatment unit at the Yamburg field.

On April 3, 2008 Gazprom and Siemens AG signed the Strategic Partnership Agreement. At the moment, the companies are developing their cooperation in the following directions: innovations, automation, IT, telemechanics and telecommunications; power generation; compressor station equipment; offshore oil and gas field development technologies; security systems for buildings and structures; energy saving and environmental protection; novel medical technologies; project finance.
