On Viktor Chernomyrdin’s initiative State Gas Concern Gazprom was established under the Gas Industry Ministry.

He took part in responding to the crisis in the Balkan region and dedicated to it his book “The Challenge”. For his peacemaking efforts and foreign policy Viktor Chernomyrdin was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Viktor Chernomyrdin passed away at the age of 73. It is he who is justly called Gazprom’s founder.
Viktor Chernomyrdin promoted the national gas industry development and laid the foundation for Gazprom to become a global energy leader today.
