Alexey Miller: “Power of Siberia gas pipeline delivers to China the first 100 billion cubic meters of Russian gas”

RELEASE

Alexey Miller:

“The Power of Siberia gas pipeline has delivered to China the first 100 billion cubic meters of Russian gas out of more than a trillion cubic meters to be supplied under the largest gas contract in the history of the industry. This is just the beginning of a long journey. The contract is in force until mid-2049. In 2027, Russian gas will start to be supplied to China via the second, i.e. Far Eastern, pipeline route.

Our partnership with China is based on mutual trust and the shared aspiration to develop and thrive. As our Chinese colleagues say, the longer the friendship is the stronger it is. The projects like Power of Siberia and the Far Eastern route mean more than supplies of clean energy. They mean a strong bond between our countries and people, as well as a mutually beneficial cooperation for many years to come.”

Background

The supplies of Russian gas to China via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline started in 2019 under the long-term Sales and Purchase Agreement between Gazprom and CNPC. Each year since 2020, the supplies have been in excess of the annual contractual obligations of Gazprom.

On December 1, 2024, following China's request, the daily exports via the Power of Siberia gas pipeline were brought to the maximum contractual level one month earlier than initially scheduled. Since then, three new all-time highs for daily gas exports to China via Power of Siberia have already been recorded.

Throughout 2024, Gazprom's pipeline gas supplies grew by more than 35 per cent and covered about a quarter of China's additional demand for gas.
