Working gas inventories in Russia’s underground storages brought to all-time maximum of 72.662 billion cubic meters

RELEASE

  • The daily deliverability of Russian UGS facilities hit a new record high of 852.4 million cubic meters.
  • All sets of scheduled preventive maintenance and repair operations are completed.
  • Gazprom is ready to cater for the increased gas demand in the upcoming cold period.

The Gazprom Management Committee took note of the information about the operational readiness of the Unified Gas Supply System (UGSS) facilities for peak loads expected in late 2022 – early 2023, as well as the measures necessary to ensure uninterrupted gas supplies to consumers in winter.

It was noted that the reliable provision of the required amounts of gas to Russian consumers, especially in the cold period, is the top priority for Gazprom. To that end, the Company carries out full-scale preparatory activities at its facilities, doing so in advance and strictly in line with the developed schedule.

As of today, Gazprom's infrastructure is generally ready for working under peak loads and meeting the increased gas demand in winter. All of the planned activities, including 11 sets of scheduled preventive maintenance and repair operations, have been completed.

Repairs at 90 gas production and treatment facilities have been performed in full. Another comprehensive gas treatment unit (CGTU-21) was put into operation at the Urengoyskoye field in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area (YaNAA). In December 2022, CGTU-2 will be launched at the Kovyktinskoye field in the Irkutsk Region. Work is underway to increase booster compressor capacities at the BovanenkovskoyeZapolyarnoye and Urengoyskoye fields in the YaNAA, as well as at the Chayandinskoye field in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia).

Special attention was paid to ensuring the reliable operation of the gas transmission system. By October 1, the Company repaired 669 kilometers of the linear part of gas trunklines and 15 strings of submerged crossings, as well as 454 gas compressor units and 104 gas distribution stations. Over 26,000 kilometers of gas pipelines underwent in-line inspections.

Underground gas storage (UGS) facilities and the amount of reserves in them have an important role in ensuring the Company's confident performance during the autumn/winter season. By the beginning of the 2022–2023 withdrawal period, the working gas inventories in Russia's UGS facilities were brought to an all-time maximum level of 72.662 billion cubic meters. Taking into account the UGS facilities in Belarus and Armenia, the working gas inventories stand at 73.859 billion cubic meters.

The potential maximum daily deliverability of Russian underground storages reached 852.4 million cubic meters, which is also a new record in the history of Russia's gas sector. Taking into account the UGS facilities in Belarus and Armenia, the potential maximum daily deliverability amounts to 892.4 million cubic meters.

The high level of reserves and deliverability demonstrated by Gazprom's UGS facilities makes it possible to promptly withdraw the required amounts of gas from the storages in the event of any sharp drops in air temperatures and growth in gas consumption.

Gazprom's relevant units, subsidiaries, and entities were tasked to complete the preparation of the UGSS facilities for autumn/winter operation in due time and to ensure the reliable and uninterrupted functioning of the production capacities.
