Alexey Miller and IGU President Joe M. Kang discuss role of natural gas in energy mix

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Joe M. Kang, President of the International Gas Union (IGU), took place today at the 8th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.
The parties discussed the world gas industry’s development trends, including the long-term role of natural gas in the global energy mix. According to IGU, global gas consumption with grow by 1.6 to 2 per cent per year in the coming decades. Competitiveness, affordability, and eco-friendliness will remain essential in that regard.
The meeting focused in particular on the environmental aspects of gas use. The parties emphasized the importance of the gas majors’ commitment to reducing methane emissions. It was stressed that the signing of the Guiding Principles on Reducing Methane Emissions across the Natural Gas Value Chain was among the practical steps toward that goal. Gazprom inked the document, which had been co-developed by IGU, in March 2018.
Alexey Miller and Joe M. Kang reaffirmed their commitment to continue the fruitful cooperation between Gazprom and the International Gas Union.

The International Gas Union (IGU) is an international non-profit organization uniting gas associations and companies from across 90 countries. IGU has 90 Charter Members and 72 Associate Members. Russia became a Charter Member of IGU in 1957.
