A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Management Committee of Gazprom, and Nechirvan Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Region of the Islamic Republic of Iraq, took place today at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2017.

The meeting participants discussed current cooperation issues, focusing, inter alia, on geological exploration at the Shakal and Halabja blocks and development of the Sarqala field.

The parties noted that their partnership was constructive, underscoring mutual interest in deeper cooperation.

Background

Gazprom’s interests in Iraq are represented by Gazprom Neft that is involved in four projects in the Republic, three of which are located in the Kurdistan Region. Gazprom Neft holds an 80 per cent stake in the Shakal and Halabja projects and a 40 per cent stake in the Sarqala project (operatorship).
