Vitaly Markelov and Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina discuss cooperation in oil and gas sector

The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Vitaly Markelov, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh.

The parties discussed the issues of bilateral cooperation in the oil and gas sector. In particular, the meeting addressed the prospects for partnership between Gazprom and state-owned Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation Petrobangla, as well as the progress with the signed contracts.

Apart from that, Sheikh Hasina visited Gazprom's Central Operations and Dispatch Department and got acquainted with the work of the Unified Gas Supply System of Russia.

Pre-drilling operations in Bangladesh

Background

Proven natural gas reserves of Bangladesh amount to 366 billion cubic meters. Some 19 billion cubic meters of natural gas annually produced in the Republic are entirely consumed domestically.

In April 2012 Gazprom Group represented by Gazprom International and Bangladesh Oil, Gas and Mineral Corporation Petrobangla signed two drilling contracts for 10 production wells.

Gazprom International is a specialized subsidiary of Gazprom dealing with hydrocarbons exploration and production beyond the Russian Federation.
