Russian citizens appreciate Gazprom’s efforts on financing and building Olympic facilities in Sochi

The All-Russian Public Opinion Poll Center (VTsIOM) revealed the data about where the financing sources for Olympic facilities in Sochi come from, which of the investors shows most enthusiasm while preparing the city for the Winter Olympic Games and what Olympic facilities receive the bulk of finance according to the Russian citizens' opinions.

Gazprom is considered by 52 per cent of Russians as the major investor in the Olympic facilities construction. At the same time, Gazprom's efforts on financing and constructing the Olympic facilities in Sochi are widely appreciated: 41 per cent of the respondents approve calling it essential and helpful for the Government.

The poll has shown that the most widely-known projects sponsored by investors as part of the Program for Construction of Olympic Facilities and Development of Sochi as a Mountain-Climatic Resort are gasification of the Krasnodar Krai's Black Sea coast, the Dzhubga – Lazarevskoye – Sochi gas pipeline, construction of the Ice Stadium and the Big Ice Arena.

Answering the questions about the future of the Olympic facilities being constructed Russian citizens most frequently forecast that Sochi will turn into the leading sports base to train Russian sportsmen. The least probable cases are the neglect of the Olympic facilities and transformation of Sochi into a global sports resort.

The opinion poll covering 1,600 people in 46 Oblasts, Krais and Republics of the country was carried out in June 2011. The statistical error doesn't exceed 3.4 per cent.
