Alexey Miller examines Astrakhan’s embankment modernized by Gazprom in advance of city’s anniversary

Today during the visit to Astrakhan, Gazprom Management Committee Chairman Alexey Miller has examined the main embankment of the city that was reconstructed and modernized by Gazprom in advance of the 450th anniversary of Astrakhan’s foundation day.

In April 2006 Gazprom and the Astrakhan Oblast Administration signed the Agreement of Cooperation. Pursuant to the Agreement Gazprom was obligated to reconstruct and modernize some 1.8 km-long embankment of the Volga River.
The reconstruction process called for intensive studies and advanced engineering solutions. The promenade area was extended and the entire structure was reinforced to resist the floodwater. Besides, the embankment was equipped with several modern fountains.
