On working meeting between Alexey Miller and Binyamin Ben-Eliezer

Today, the Gazprom Headquarters has hosted a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee and Binyamin Ben-Eliezer, Minister of National Infrastructure of Israel.
The partied discussed the prospects for Russian-Israeli cooperation in the energy sector.
Particularly, the meeting examined the possibilities to provide Russian gas deliveries to Israel, Gazprom’s participation in the projects for gas networks engineering and construction in the territory of the country as well as the cooperation in the sectors of power energy, gas storage & processing.
Within the meeting Binyamin Ben-Eliezer expressed a big interest in Russian gas supply to Israel on the basis of long-term contracts.
Background
The share of oil, coal and natural gas in the Israeli energy balance accounts for some 67%, 30% and less than 1%, respectively. The country’s proved natural gas reserves are valued at 47 bcm, with gas production averaging 800 mln cu m per annum.
The anticipated natural gas demand growth is driven primarily by Israel’s power generation development prospects. According to the Israeli Government’s projections, the country’s natural gas needs will average 8 bcm by 2010.
