Gazprom and Moldovagaz ink contract on natural gas transit via and supply to Republic of Moldova

Gazprom’s Headquarters has hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of Gazprom’s Management Committee and Zinaida Grecianii, First Vice Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
The parties managed to find mutually acceptable solutions on all major issues surrounding cooperation in the gas sector. In the first quarter of this year Russian gas will be piped to Moldova at US $110 per 1,000 cu m. At the same time the parties achieved accords on the activity of the Moldovan-Russian Moldovagaz joint venture, potential increase of Russia’s participation share in Moldova’s gas transmission system and conservation of its structural integrity. Further discussions about the gas pricing policy will continue with the account of the agreements reached today.
Background
In 2005 the Republic of Moldova received from Gazprom 2.45 bcm of gas.
Moldova’s gas debt (excluding penalties) to Russia averaged US $780 mln including US $560 mln owed by the Transdnestr region.
