Alexey Miller attended the celebration devoted to 35th anniversary of Russian gas supplies to Austria

A celebration was held in Vienna devoted to the 35th anniversary of the Russian gas supply to Austria. Headed by the Chairman of the Management Committee Alexey Miller, the delegation of Gazprom attended the celebration. The delegation was made up of the Deputy Chairman of the management Committee Alexander Ananenkov, the member of the Management Committee Bogdan Budzukyak and the Member of the Management Committee, General director of Gazexport Alexander Medvedev. On behalf of the President of the Austrian Republic Tomas Klestil, the Federal Minister for Economy and Labor Martin Bartenstein handed the Great Golden Badge of Honor for Merit for the Austrian Republic to Alexey Miller.
“I perceive the award as a token of respect to all 300 thousand employees of Gazprom, to several generations of the gasmen whose labor ensured Russian gas supply to Austrian consumers for 35 years”, – stressed A. Miller at the ceremony.
Within the frames of celebration an exhibition of paintings of the winners of the “Warm Home” All-Russian festival of kids’ paintings was opened; the festival was devoted to the 10th anniversary of Gazprom. Alexey Miller and Dr. Wolfgang Ruttenstorfer, General director, Member of Board OMV AG – OMV Erdgas GmbH, opened the exhibition.
Background
OMV AG was the first western company, which signed a long-term contract for natural gas purchasing from the USSR, assuming supply of 5.6 bcm of gas per year. As of June 1, 2003 the total amount of gas delivered to Austria exceeded 128 bcm.
Austria plays an important role in the Russian natural gas transmission to Italy, France, Germany, Hungary, Slovenia and Croatia. The volume of transit gas supply through the Austrian territory amounted to 30 bcm in 2002.
