The competitions of the Russian National Championship 2023 were held on March 21–26 in the Russian Table Tennis Center which had been built in Orenburg in 2013 under the Gazprom for Children program. Striving for victory were sportsmen from 22 Russian regions.
Denis Ivonin, who represented the team of the Orenburg Region, became the winner in singles. For the table tennis of Orenburg, this is the first-ever victory at such level. Denis Ivonin defeated five opponents, three of whom are international masters of sports. After the deciding match, he said: “It is the first individual medal I have won in Russian national championships! And it is nothing less than gold!”
In the team competitions, Orenburg's tennis players won third place.
Oleg Nikolaev, President of Fakel-Gazprom table tennis club, Director General of Gazprom Dobycha Orenburg, noted: “Our company has been supporting sports throughout its entire history. The construction of the Russian Academy of Table Tennis commenced in November last year. There is no doubt that the Academy will provide an additional strong impetus for the development of this sport. We do all this work for the good of children, to provide them with new possibilities for improving their excellence.”
