Martial Arts Academy sports complex in Sirius federal territory: new facility built under Gazprom for Children project

The Martial Arts Academy sports complex has been built in the Sirius federal territory under the Gazprom for Children project.

It is the largest sports complex for martial arts in Russia and one of the biggest centers for martial arts in the world.

The complex with a total area of 63,500 square meters was created as a result of transforming the Olympic arena of the Ice Cube Curling Center into the Competition Center with a total area of 17,500 square meters and constructing a new Multi-Purpose Sports and Training Complex with a total area of 46,000 square meters.

The Competition Center is equipped with four tatami mats, bleachers for 2,000 spectators, and features a state-of-the-art electronic judging system. It also houses the martial arts history museum with a total area of 950 square meters.

The Multi-Purpose Sports and Training Complex comprises a 53x48 meters judo hall equipped with 12 tatami mats and a 53x48 meters multi-purpose hall that can be quickly reequipped to be used for different kinds of sport. The judo hall of the Martial Arts Academy is the biggest hall for judo practice in the world. Its floor has a special structure with so-called “floating” tatami mats. Due to the good damping characteristics of this covering, it helps significantly minimize traumatic events during training sessions and is also more wear-resistant as compared to conventional flooring.

The total area of the halls is 5,000 square meters. The facility also houses two workout rooms, a medical-and-rest center and a hotel.
