From March 14 to 17, Ukhta hosted the final round of the Winter Spartakiada Games organized by Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta. The qualifying rounds in six sports – futsal, basketball, table tennis, shooting, billiards, and cross-country skiing – had been held from January through mid-March. In the course of four days, 14 finalist teams fought for the top titles.

The winners of individual and team events were awarded at the closing ceremony. The events and winners were as follows: futsal – Emergency Response and Recovery Directorate, basketball – Emergency Response and Recovery Directorate, table tennis – Myshkinskoye Gas Pipeline Operation Center, billiards – Emergency Response and Recovery Directorate, shooting – Mikunskoye Gas Pipeline Operation Center, cross-country skiing – the united team of the Corporate Security Service and the Medical Unit. In the team standings, the Emergency Response and Recovery Directorate team took first place, the united team of the Corporate Security Service and the Medical Unit came in second, and the Administration team finished third.

“Four days of the competition flew by in an instant. This year's Games will be remembered for uncompromising struggle, surprises, and a friendly atmosphere. It is not just a celebration of sports, it is a celebration of wonderful people and a tight-knit team – let this be a motto for victories in both work and sports at our company!” said Yevgeny Gusev, Deputy Director General for HR, giving the winners their due.

Yulia Chepalova, three-time Olympic champion and two-time world champion attending the awarding and the closing ceremony as a guest of honor, wished the athletes every success and further victories.

The Spartakiada Games are an annual event that unites the company's team and promotes fitness and sports among employees.

Background

Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom supplying natural gas to consumers in nine regions of northwestern Russia and ensuring gas transit within and beyond the former Soviet Union. The gas transmission system operated by the company stretches across Russia's northwestern areas from the Yamal Peninsula-based Bovanenkovskoye field and Baidaratskaya, the world's northernmost compressor station, to the country's western borders.

Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta's area of operation covers 16,000 kilometers of gas trunklines. In 2018, the company transmitted over 190.54 billion cubic meters of gas.

The company has 24 branches, including 14 gas pipeline operation centers, and 44 compressor stations with 89 compressor workshops. Gas transmission is performed by 442 gas compressors with a total installed capacity of 6,396.6 MW, while gas distribution is handled by 174 gas distribution stations.

Gazprom Transgaz Ukhta adopted the ISO 9001:2008 quality management system and the ISO 14001:2015 environmental management system.

The company employs upwards of 13,000 people. It is headquartered in Ukhta, Komi Republic.
