Background

The accumulated amount of gas produced by Severneftegazprom from the Yuzhno-Russkoye oil, gas and condensate field totaled 200 billion cubic meters on May 14, 2016.

Yuzhno-Russkoye was put into commercial production in 2007, 38 years after the field was discovered and first gas was extracted from the Cenomanian deposits in 1969.

In 2009, the field reached its design capacity a year ahead of schedule, with the annual output reaching 25 billion cubic meters of gas. As early as 2010, the output of Yuzhno-Russkoye totaled 50 billion cubic meters of gas.

The field’s proven hydrocarbon reserves are estimated at over 1 trillion cubic meters of gas. Severneftegazprom is one of Russia’s leading gas producers and is a perfect example of successful cooperation with foreign partners, Wintershall Holding and Uniper Exploration & Production (prior to April 2016 – E.ON Exploration & Production), which joined the project in 2007 and 2009, respectively.
