Gazprom Transgaz Saratov and Vernadsky Ecological Foundation hold nationwide conference

A nationwide scientific conference entitled “Environmental Safety of Gas Trunklines: Challenges and Prospects” took place on June 20 at the premises of the Niva Health and Recreation Center owned by Gazprom Transgaz Saratov. Held under the auspices of the Vernadsky Non-Governmental Ecological Foundation, Gazprom Transgaz Saratov’s long-standing partner in the area of environmental education, the conference was dedicated to the 70^th anniversary of the commissioning of Saratov – Moscow, Russia’s first gas trunkline.

The event was part of the Gagarin Floating University comprehensive scientific and educational expedition involving geographers, soil scientists, and ecologists from Saratov, Moscow, Novosibirsk, and Khabarovsk, who had a nearly month-long scientific journey down the Volga River from Saratov to Ulyanovsk.

Taking part in the nationwide conference were also the employees of Gazprom Transgaz Saratov’s environmental and energy saving division, environmental engineers from the Engineering & Technical Center and other branches of the company, scientists from the Environmental Department of the Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov, and Gagarin University students and master’s graduates.

The conference participants reviewed the scientific and practical aspects of environmental activities within the scope of the gas transmission company’s operations. Particular attention was paid to Gazprom Transgaz Saratov’s successful experience in converting motor vehicles to natural gas, which had helped reduce environmental pollution to a large extent.

Andrey Romanov, Deputy Director General for Production at Gazprom Transgaz Saratov, stressed that, ever since the commissioning of Russia’s first gas pipeline Saratov – Moscow, the company had prioritized the reliability of the gas transmission system coupled with conformance to all environmental standards. Tatiana Evseenkova, Deputy Executive Director of the Vernadsky Non-Governmental Ecological Foundation, said she fully agreed with that statement and went on to commend Gazprom Transgaz Saratov for ensuring strict compliance with all environmental requirements in the production and transportation of fossil fuels.
