News from projects and regions
Gazprom Geologorazvedka has launched geochemical surveys at the Kovyktinskoye gas and condensate field located in the Irkutsk Region. The surveys are aimed at exploring the geological structure of the Kovyktinskaya gas accumulation area and specifying its boundaries, as well as identifying new oil- and gas-bearing sites.
Gazprom Geologorazvedka’s surveys will cover 1,000 linear kilometers. The company will bore over 5,000 geochemical wells about one meter deep at Kovyktinskoye during the field season in order to calculate the qualitative and quantitative indicators of hydrocarbon gas migration.
Gazprom Geologorazvedka commissioned the Geosfera company to conduct the surveys. Sample analysis will identify abnormal gas concentrations indicating hydrocarbon accumulations in deposits.
“This year Gazprom Geologorazvedka has completed large-scale seismic surveys of the Kovyktinskoye field. The company is in the midst of performing exploratory drilling and has started electrical prospecting. We are conducting geochemical surveys in the Irkutsk Region for the first time. But it is comprehensive geological exploration with various techniques that allows us to gather the most objective information about the subsoil structure, which has potential for enhancing the field development efficiency,” said Alexey Davydov, Director General of Gazprom Geologorazvedka.
Background
Gazprom Geologorazvedka is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom engaged in the entire range of exploration activities aimed at prospecting for new hydrocarbon fields and deposits both onshore and on the shelf of the Russian Federation, as well as in the follow-up exploration and pre-development of reserves in the existing fields. The company’s key objective is to replenish Gazprom Group’s mineral resource base.
Gazprom Geologorazvedka operates in the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Area, Krasnoyarsk Territory, Irkutsk Region, Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), and central Russia, as well as offshore the Kara and Barents Seas and the Sea of Okhotsk.
Following Gazprom’s corporate social responsibility strategy, the company contributes to the social and economic development of the territories where it operates.
Gazprom Geologorazvedka has adopted the ISO 14001:2004 environmental management system. Industrial environmental control and environmental protection measures are carried out at all the company’s facilities.
The company is headquartered in Tyumen and employs over 700 people.
In 2012, Gazprom Geologorazvedka launched an exploration program in the Irkutsk Region, aiming to specify the structure and amount of hydrocarbon reserves and the geological model of the Kovyktinskoye field. Over the course of geological exploration, five wells have been drilled; two other wells are under construction. In the spring of 2016, 3D seismic surveys covering 5,050 square kilometers of the Kovyktinsky licensed block were completed.
At present, Gazprom Geologorazvedka performs geological exploration at four licensed blocks, namely Kovyktinsky, Khandinsky, Chikansky (Kovyktinskaya group of fields), and Yuzhno-Ust-Kutsky. Seismic surveys and well construction are carried out using modern technologies and materials, which ensures industrial and environmental safety.
