Background
The Yelets offensive operation of the South-Western Front was undertaken from December 6 to 16, 1941 as part of the Soviet counteroffensive in the Battle of Moscow. On the outskirts of Yelets, the Red Army delivered one of the first most sensitive strikes to the Nazi troops, destroying the myth of their invincibility.
