Supported by Gazprom Geologorazvedka, the 10th nationwide open outdoor competition among young geologists is underway in Tyumen between August 1 and 10.
Over 400 participants from across Russia as well as Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Mongolia and Kazakhstan are accommodated in the Aliye Parusa and Raduga children’s holiday and training camps. 45 teams of young geologists will compete in 12 disciplines: ‘Mineralogy and petrography’, ‘Radiometry’, ‘Geological statement’, ‘Description of geological monument’, ‘Geological route’, ‘Paleontology’, ‘Petroleum geology’ etc. As part of the contest, the following exhibitions will be available: ‘Geology and us’, ‘Photos’, ‘Drawings’, and ‘Stone handicrafts’. Besides, sporting activities, cultural events and meetings with famous guests will be a part of the competition.
“Our company cooperates with several Russian petroleum universities in order to train highly skilled manpower. However, the formation of well-trained specialists, along with a sound education, requires a personal interest in the occupation. And it is precious that this enthusiasm has been emerging since childhood – such guys should be definitely encouraged! I am sure that some of those young geologists willing to further develop their career in this direction, will be employed by Gazprom Geologorazvedka, as the geographical representation of the competition participants is really wide like the geographic reach of our company,” said Alexey Davydov, Director General of Gazprom Geologorazvedka.
Background
