From April 20 to 24 a Chinese delegation representing the administration of the city of Dongguan, China’s Academy of Sciences and a few businesses worked at TyumenNIIgiprogaz. The purpose of the visit was to get deeper knowledge of the Waterfall water treatment technology and to discuss cooperation opportunities in that area.

The delegation visited the Viktor Chernomyrdin Surgut-based condensate stabilization plant . Since 2006 the enterprise has used a Waterfall-3500 station with a daily water output of 3,500 tons. Observing that example, the Chinese specialists found out that the Waterfall electrocoagulation water treatment technology designed by TyumenNIIgiprogaz could be successfully used to perform assignments failed by the membrane technology and other methods.

Additionally, the delegation members observed the operations of Waterfall-50, a modular station that supplied the TyumenNIIgiprogaz buildings in Tyumen with water. Both stations have operated for about two decades now and have proven their efficiency, removing all impurities and keeping all healthy substances.

All engineering and economic aspects of the technology application were examined from all sides in a lengthy discussion. The parties finally resolved that economic viability of the use of Waterfall stations in China should be assessed.

The Chinese side expressed conviction that in order to meet China’s rapidly growing demand for water treatment equipment, it would be advisable to set up a joint venture to produce Waterfall stations in Dongguan. Once established, the new enterprise would have comprehensive backing.

In conclusion, the parties drafted a memorandum to use it as a framework for further collaboration.

Background

TyumenNIIgiprogaz is a 100 per cent subsidiary carrying out scientific, design and production activities; it is a head institution that provides scientific support to production operations of gas companies in Western Siberia.

The subsidiary applies integrated approach to construction and development of natural gas, gas condensate and oil fields. The company has a test factory as part of its structure.

All areas of focus have been certified for compliance with ISO 9001:2008 and STO Gazprom 9001—2012.

The subsidiary’s headcount is about 1,700 people.

The Waterfall electrocoagulation water treatment technology was designed by specialists of TyumenNIIgiprogaz. It is successfully implemented at oil and gas industry enterprises and in municipalities across Russia. Currently, about 120 Waterfall stations are in operation, producing 5,000 to 8,000 cubic meters of water per day.

The unique technology sparked a keen interest in China. During the 2012 and 2013 visits to China the first talks on cooperation in that area were held.

Dongguan is a major industrial center located in the Guangdong province, Southern China, in the Pearl River valley. 30,000 businesses from more than 30 industries operate there, producing over 60,000 product types. 15,000 foreign companies are based in Dongguan, with 12 of them featured on the world’s top 100 list, and 50 included in the top 500 ranking. Investors can make use of the one-stop-shop approach utilized in the area, and start business operations in keeping with the ‘one step’ principle.
