The Russian national team won the European Karate Championship that took place in Paris on June 2–3. Overall, Russian sportsmen were awarded more than 50 medals, 13 of them were fighters from Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club. The European Karate Championship in the capital of France was anything but success for the Russian sportsmen.
The Gazprom fighters showed their best results in most of the age groups. Danil Mashchenko won a bronze medal in the age group of 9 years old. Ilya Chiglintsev (12 years old), Evgeny Molchanov (13 years old), Dmitry Sysoev (14 years old) and Sergey Mashchenko (15 years old) were runners-up. Alexander Brykalov (14 years old) and Islam Nagoev (16 to 18 years old) became champions of the competition. Evgeny Molchanov (12 to 13 years old), Dmitry Cherkashin and Sergey Mashchenko (14 to 15 years old), Vladislav Ivanov, Islam Nagoev and Kazbek Mutaliev (16 to 18 years old) were awarded gold medals in the team tournaments.
Background
Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The company maintains the line pipes running through 10 Russian constituents and conveying some 70 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The gas pipelines length exceeds 7,900 kilometers.
Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Shotokan Club was founded in 1998. Viktor Mashchenko, Senior Coach of the Russian National Shotokan Karate-Do Team is a constant leader of the club.
