Astrakhan hosted a regular series of events within the Days of Spain in Russia. As part of these events a FIFA World Cup (the main football prize in the world) was exhibited before the public at the Astrakhan stadium.

A working meeting took place on that day as well. Taking part in the meeting were Juan Jose Herrera de la Muela, Spanish Ambassador responsible for the Year of Spain in Russia and Alexander Zhilkin, Governor of the Astrakhan Oblast. As a result of the meeting a memorandum was signed to establish the Football Academy under the Volgar-Gazprom club.
Background
Gazprom dobycha Astrakhan is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Gazprom. The Astrakhan gas complex is focused on gas and gas condensate extraction from the Astrakhan gas and condensate field, their processing and production of marketable products.
On April 8, 2011 Astrakhan hosted an opening ceremony dedicated to the Days of Spain in Russia. Gazprom dobycha Astrakhan is the main partner of the Russian-Spanish arrangements in Astrakhan.
