Gazprom transgaz Yekaterinburg hosted a Welcome Day for school children from grades 9 through 11. On April 22 students of the Yekaterinburg schools – children of the company’s employees who are planning to enter higher education institutions to become experts required by the gas transmission company – were invited to take a look at the gas trunkline facilities. The welcome days are held throughout the month in all the Gazprom transgaz Yekaterinburg branches located in the Sverdlovsk, Chelyabinsk, Kurgan and Orenburg Oblasts.

A tour was given to 40 school children in Yekaterinburg over the gas distribution station of the Maloistokskoye line pipe operation center. The view of the company’s history, present tasks and prospects for the gas industry development was given to the future college students added by the practical demonstration of the key gas transmission facilities operation.

Mikhail Protas, Head of the Maloistokskoye line pipe operation center noted that, “Attracting young people is among today’s top priorities of vocational guidance activity carried out by Gazprom transgaz Yekaterinburg. Even though kids learn a lot of things about occupational specifics at gas transmission facilities from their parents who work for the company, it is still helpful to choose the right job after seeing the process with their own eyes and gaining the firsthand experience”.

The children also had a look at the natural gas liquefaction technology at an LNG production facility of the GDS-4 in Yekaterinburg. The use of liquid methane is among the most essential thrusts for public utilities and industrial consumers and it is quite possible that some of the young experts will be engaged in this very sector of the gas industry in the future.

Also worth noting is that some 20 boys and girls enter higher education institutions under the contracts with Gazprom transgaz Yekaterinburg, undertake on-the-job training and apprenticeship courses, and after graduation are employed according to their vocational education profile.
