40th anniversary of Central Asia – Center gas pipeline

Dear friends, colleagues and veterans!

Today we celebrate a milestone event – forty years ago the first phase of the Central Asia – Center gas transmission system was put into operation.

The construction of this unique system became a landmark in the history of the Russian and global gas industry. The word combination ‘transcontinental gas trunkline system’ was first used after completion of the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline system that connected gas fields of Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to industrially advanced regions of central Russia.

The construction and operation of this system allowed gaining a unique experience underlying advanced solutions for long-distance gas transmission in harsh natural and climatic conditions. It deserves mentioning that for the first time in the gas industry 1,200 to 1,400 millimeter pipes were used during the Central Asia – Center system construction, and afterwards they were widely accepted in the gas trunkline construction in Russia.

The building of the Central Asia – Center gas transmission system was an outstanding event for the people of Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan, as well as an example of hard working, professional expertise and endurance of multinational gasmen teams.

Nowadays, the Central Asia – Center gas pipeline system hasn’t lost its significance. It is the very system that transits considerable volumes of Central Asian gas. These volumes will grow due to the extensive retrofitting efforts.

I’m sure that through the united efforts of Gazprom and our partners from Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan the consumers will, for many years ahead, enjoy all the benefits derived from natural gas, a most environmentally friendly fuel.
