EcoGas efficiency proved by gas-fueled KAMAZ
The Africa Eco Race 2017 concluded in Senegal on January 14, 2017. The gas-fueled KAMAZ led by Sergey Kupriyanov finished among the top ten in the final standings.

The 6,500-kilometer rally consisted of 12 stages. The timed sections such as the rocky plateaus of Morocco, the sands of Mauritania, and the savannas of Senegal made up most of the route, namely 3,800 kilometers. Far from every one of the 52 participating vehicles managed to cross the finish line, but the gas-fueled KAMAZ proved up to the challenge.
It was the third African rally for the crew led by Sergey Kupriyanov. The gas-powered KAMAZ is the only truck of its kind that runs on EcoGas, an NGV fuel. Thanks to the addition of gas as a vehicle fuel, the gas-fueled KAMAZ speeds up faster and reaches its maximum power at lower rpm, which is extremely helpful in the heavy sands of Africa.
Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo's mobile filling station provided the truck with NGV fuel. Together with the technical support vehicles of the KAMAZ-Master team, the mobile filling station traveled the entire route, consistently refueling the truck at the finish line of each stage. With its engine operating in a combined gas and diesel cycle, the truck could cover 600–700 kilometers on a full fuel tank.

“Russia has the world's largest natural gas reserves. The use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel is gaining popularity around the globe. The gas-fueled KAMAZ demonstrates that natural gas is a cost-effective, safe and environmentally friendly vehicle fuel,” said Sergey Kupriyanov, pilot of the gas-fueled KAMAZ.
The gas-fueled KAMAZ is a special model of a sports truck powered by compressed natural gas. The model was created in 2013 by the KAMAZ-Master team with the support of Gazprom and VTB Bank. The project's goal is to demonstrate the benefits of using natural gas as a vehicle fuel.
The use of natural gas as a vehicle fuel in the gas-powered KAMAZ helps reduce toxic emissions substantially and cut fuel costs due to the low price of natural gas.
The production and marketing of natural gas as a vehicle fuel is one of Gazprom's priorities. A special-purpose company, Gazprom Gazomotornoye Toplivo, was established for ensuring the continuous development of the NGV market.
