Gazprom wins at Green Development – Evolution Awards 2016
Gazprom was announced the winner of the All-Russian Green Development – Evolution Awards 2016 in the Best Green Tech Solution category. The award was presented by competition committee chairman Sergey Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Environment of the Russian Federation.
The Company was awarded for developing and introducing technologies that ensure high energy efficiency and reduce specific greenhouse gas emissions. These technologies include the use of mobile compressor stations without venting gas to the atmosphere from the gas pipeline section under repair. Another gas saving technology is hot tapping, which allows for making a connection to an operating gas pipeline without shutting the system down or venting gas. Gas leaks are promptly detected by aerial systems of pipeline inspection, automated laser monitoring systems installed at compressor stations, thermal imagers, and portable hand-held gas leak detectors.
The above mentioned and other advanced technologies helped reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the Company's facilities by 7.3 per cent down to 102.6 million tons in CO2 equivalent in 2015.
The technologies developed and employed by Gazprom generate a significant economic benefit for the Company. Between 2011 and 2015, the total fuel and energy savings in Gazprom amounted to RUB 32.7 billion in monetary terms.
The Green Development – Evolution Awards were set up by the Russian Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to honor achievements in the area of sustainable development in the Russian Federation. The Awards aim to, among other things, identify the green tech market trends in Russia and promote ecological awareness countrywide. The main criteria for determining the best developments are relevance, creativity, efficiency, and ability to share successful practices. In 2016, over 100 Russian companies applied for the competition.
