Alexey Miller and Ion Ariton discuss Russian-Romanian cooperation in energy sector
The Gazprom headquarters hosted today a working meeting between Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Company's Management Committee and Ion Ariton, Romanian Minister of Economy, Trade and Business Environment.
The parties discussed the current status of the bilateral cooperation in the energy sector. Special attention was paid to promoting the joint efforts on Russian gas delivery to Romania and its transit to third countries.
In addition, the meeting participants addressed the possibility of launching joint power generating projects.
The Romanian party was also informed on the progress with the South Stream project.
Russia has been delivering natural gas to Romania since 1979. In 2010 Gazprom supplied the country with 2.6 billion cubic meters of gas. Russian gas is exported to Romania under two long-term contracts effective until 2030.
Romania transits natural gas to Bulgaria, Macedonia, Turkey, Greece, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Natural gas transit to the said countries amounted to 15 billion cubic meters in 2010.
