Gazprom delegation takes part in International Conference TIOGE-2007 in Turkmenistan

Ashgabat (Turkmenistan) has hosted today the 12th Turkmen International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmanistan-2007” (TIOGE-2007).

Attending the Conference was a Gazprom delegation chaired by Valery Golubev, Deputy Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee.

Reporting at the plenary session Valery Golubev underscored that Gazprom highly valued the multilateral cooperation development between Gazprom and Turkmenistan as long-standing reliable partners. The execution of accords achieved set in the Intergovernmental Agreement signed on April 10, 2003 opens new horizons for cooperation between Russian and Turkmen companies. The construction of the Precaspian gas pipeline is the largest joint project.

Valery Golubev also specified that Gazprom considered its participation in the gas exploration and production in the Caspian Sea offshore area as well as gas chemical projects to be the most relevant and perspective cooperation directions.

The reporter said that the cooperation between Gazprom and Turkmenistan was not limited to production business. The Company plans to rapidly develop joint educational projects. Particularly, the parties plan to establish a branch of Gubkin Russian State University of Oil and Gas as well as to prepare Turkmen applicants for entering the Russian oil and gas universities.

The Conference will last for two days and will end up on November 15.

Russia and Turkmenistan entered into a 25-year Agreement for cooperation in the gas industry on April 10, 2003. In conjunction with the Agreement, Gazprom export, a Gazprom wholly owned subsidiary, and the Turkmenneftegaz gas transmission company concluded a long-term Contract for the Turkmen natural gas purchase and sale.

Turkmen gas is supplied via the Central Asia – Center transit gas pipeline network going through Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan and Russia. In accordance with inter-governmental agreements, Gazprom transits Turkmen gas via Russia to Ukraine and serves as operator of Turkmen gas transit via Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

The 12th Turkmen International Conference “Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan-2007” is attended by oil and gas companies from different countries. In the frames of the Conference the parties will address issues related to field development in Turkmenistan, including the Turkmen section of the Caspian Sea Offshore area, technical problems and ways of solving them within the hydrocarbon prospecting, processing and transportation.
