The results of Alexey Miller and Peter Piotuch’s working meeting

A working meeting between Alexey Miller, Gazprom’s Management Committee Chairman, and Peter Piotuch, Beltransgaz’s Director General, was held today at Gazprom’s headquarters.

The participants discussed the terms of Russian gas deliveries to Belarus for 2004 and the progress in establishing a Gazprom and Beltransgaz’s joint venture.

The parties stated that since the negotiations on these issues had come to a deadlock, Gazprom stopped supplying gas to Belarus since January 1, 2004. At present, Belarus receives natural gas from independent gas suppliers.

On April 12, 2002, the Russian and Belarusian Governments signed the Agreements on Establishing Equal Pricing Conditions and on Promoting Cooperation in the Gas Industry. Under the 1st Agreement, from May 1, 2002 onwards, Gazprom delivered natural gas to Belarus at wholesale price applicable for Russia’s 5th price zone. Under the 2nd Agreement, Belarus, in its turn, had to lay the foundation for setting up, together with Gazprom, a Beltransgaz-based gas transportation joint venture.

In 2003, Gazprom fully fulfilled its contractual obligations on gas deliveries to Belarus, having supplied 10.2 bcm of natural gas to the country. Since January 1, 2004, Belarus has been receiving natural gas from independent gas suppliers. In January, Belarus is expected to receive some 2 bcm of natural gas.
