Alexander Medvedev was born on August 14, 1955 in the town of Shakhtersk of the Sakhalin region.

Company history
The All-Union Association Soyuzgazexport was founded on April 23, 1973. In autumn 1991 Soyuzgazexport joined Gazprom State Gas Concern as a state-owned international business company and received the name of Gazexport State Foreign Trade Enterprise in December 1991 due to the transition of RSFSR organizations to the jurisdiction of the Russian Federation.
In 1993 the company was transformed into Gazexport International Business Company, a subsidiary of RAO Gazprom.
Gazexport Limited Liability Company was established according to the Decree No. 39 by the Management Committee of RAO Gazprom dated April 9, 1997 and the Decision No. 53 by the Board of Directors of Gazprom dated February 12, 1998, and registered by the Moscow Registration Chamber on May 12, 1999 (certificate No. 028081). Gazprom is the founder and the full owner of the company.
In November 2006, pursuant to the founder's decision, Gazexport was renamed Gazprom export.
Major activities
- Natural gas exports to Europe and the CIS.
- Export of gas condensate, oil, petroleum derivatives, liquefied hydrocarbon gases and other products of the petroleum and petrochemical industries.
- Gas marketing on the new markets, export flows optimization and gas market behavior forecasting.
- Participation in development and execution of Gazprom’s gas and gas energy investment projects in Russia and abroad.
Gazprom export is a guarantor of the bulk of investments projects for Gazprom Group. Long-term contracts between Gazprom export and Western European customers secure the loans obtained by Gazprom to finance the programs on upgrade, modernization and development of Russian gas export networks.
Environmental protection
In the present-day world, increasing attention is paid to the environmental efforts and observance of the international environmental standards. Natural gas is the most eco-friendly fuel. The modern energy saving equipment enables to burn gas with high efficiency and low pollution rates.
The company’s activities include environmental protection and mitigation of the negative global climate changes. The International Kyoto Protocol aimed at a phased reduction in CO2 emissions provides for emission trading. Headquartered in Great Britain, Gazprom Marketing & Trading, a subsidiary of Gazprom, successfully operates in this area.
Social policy
The company is permanently engaged in sponsorship and charitable activities, supports orphanages in Russian regions and participates in the Illustrated Books for Small Blind Children Program.
It has become traditional in Gazprom to back the Open Europe International Children’s Music Festival in Austria, the Open Europe International Children’s Mission for Peace and Friendship in Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia, as well as Christmas Charity Fairs.
The company’s health care support incorporates diagnostics and hospital treatment, as well as adaptation and training of starblind children. The company purchases medicines for the Chernobyltsy association and medical equipment for the burn center of Speransky Children’s Hospital.
The Gazprom to Children Program involves a number of projects, namely, the Open Europe International Children’s Music Festival in Austria, the Open Europe Moscow International Competitive Festival, and the Constellation Cup ice hockey tournament.
Prospects
Within the nearest twenty years the share of natural gas will grow in the European energy consumption mix. By 2020 Europe’s demand for imported gas will rise to 70 per cent with an increase in the Russian gas share from 26 to 33 per cent. Natural gas supply to European countries is projected to make up to 250 billion cubic meters by then. Sustained gas exports to Europe will be secured by the new pipeline routes – Nord Stream and South Stream.
Gazprom export is actively engaged in liquefied natural gas (LNG) trading. Development of new fields will make it possible to penetrate the Asian and Northern American markets.
