Alexey Miller, Chairman of the Gazprom Management Committee, and Valery Limarenko, Acting Governor of the Sakhalin Region, today signed at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019 an Agreement of Intent.
According to the document, Gazprom plans to implement an investment project for the construction of an office complex and a residential complex in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk for the needs of the Gazprom Group. In addition, provisions are made for the construction of a multi-purpose sports and leisure center and an ice arena, both of which will be available to all residents of the city.
In turn, the regional government will assist the Company in resolving land issues and obtaining the approvals required for the project.
The St. Petersburg International Economic Forum 2019 is being held at the EXPOFORUM Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 6 to 8. This year's key topic is Creating a Sustainable Development Agenda.
Cooperation between Gazprom and the Sakhalin Region is strategic. Within the state-run Eastern Gas Program, the Company is developing a major gas production center on the shelf of Sakhalin Island. In particular, commercial development of the Kirinskoye field is underway and production wells are being drilled at the Yuzhno-Kirinskoye field as part of the Sakhalin III project.
In 2008–2018, Gazprom spent RUB 5.9 billion on gas infrastructure expansion in the Sakhalin Region, building nine inter-settlement gas pipelines. As of January 1, 2019, the regional gas penetration rate was 37.2 per cent. In 2019, the Company started to construct a gas pipeline to bring gas to sports and tourism facilities in the Gorny Vozdukh priority development area, as well as to the Santa, Uyunovka and Botanichesky Sad residential microdistricts of Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk.
Gazprom takes part in the development of social and sports infrastructure across the region. The Russia – My History multimedia historical park and an ice palace were constructed in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk with the support of Gazprom. Under the Gazprom for Children program, 16 multi-purpose sports grounds and two school stadiums will be built in the region this year.
