2001 highlights

Company’s net profit accounts for 1320 mln Euro:

On September 26, 1990 Gazprom and Wintershall AG concluded an Agreement on cooperation in gas industry.

Gazprom is the main gas supplier for Wintershall. Imported gas is coming from the North Sea gas fields and through spot market transactions.

To enhance efficiency of the Russian gas sales and to increase Russian gas share on the German market Gazprom and Wintershall AG established in 1993 in Germany two joint ventures WINGAZ (35 % Gazprom and 65 % Wintershall) and WIEH (50 % Gazprom and 50 % Wintershall).

Joint projects

On April 24, 2001 a meeting of the management of the Gazprom, Fortum, Ruhrgas AG and Wintershall companies was held in Moscow. The Statement on a joint feasibility study of the North-European gas pipeline project was adopted at the meeting, with two German companies involved in the study. The gas pipeline, about 1200-km long and with capacity of about 19 bcm per year, is supposed to run under the Baltic Sea from Vyborg up to the coastal Germany. One of the basic advantages of the proposed gas pipeline is that it will allow to make closer connection with the European market and to decrease dependence on transit countries.

On October 18, 2000 in Moscow, Gazprom, Wintershall AG, Ruhrgas AG" as well as Gaz de France and SNАМ signed the Memorandum of understanding (MOU) on construction of the Kobrin – Velke – Kapushany gas pipeline connection to diversify gas export routes of the Russian gas and to enhance reliability. Twin pipe gas line about 650-km-long with the 60 bcm per year capacity will be installed running from the town of Kobrin up to Velke- Kapushany through the territories of Belarus, Poland and Slovakia.

The Achimov gas and gas condensate field development near Urengoy. Within the framework of the agreement with Gazprom preliminary works are intensified to develop Achimov deposits as well as the Urengoy gas condensate field.

Prirazlomnoye oil field development was postponed for a year due to the lack of the resources.

Scientific and technical cooperation

Scientific and technical cooperation to back-up the entire cycle from gas production to gas deliveries to end-consumers is under way. Major aspects of such cooperation cover: gas pipelines operation reliability, anti-corrosion activities, underground gas storage, gas treatment, and joint implementation of automated control systems.

In 2001, the 10th anniversary of the cooperation practices in professional training of the managerial personnel and experts is commemorated.
