USE OF COMPRESSED NATURAL GAS METHANE (CNG) AS A MOTOR FUEL
Gas use as a motor fuel has the equally long history as the combustion engine itself. As early as in 1860 this engine invented by French mechanic Lenuar was being operated on gas. There are more than 1 million of gasified automobiles in the world today. There are 36000 of gasified automobiles in Russia.
The most effective method of costs reduction of transport operation is the use of compressed natural gas methane (CNG) as a motor fuel.
These are the advantages of such motor fuel use:
Cost efficiency
The natural gas (for the motor transport) price is determined by the Russian Federation Government Regulation at a rate not exceeding 50% of the petrol A-76 price. At the same time 1 cbm of gas is equivalent to 1 liter of petrol by power component and consumption. But the prices on petrol, diesel oil and liquefied propane- butane are free, and they tend to rise.
Technical effect
The motor oil on cylinder walls does not interact with the gaseous methane. The oil is not rarefied or polluted with combustion products, and as a result, the life time of oil increases 1,5-2 times, the oil operating consumption decreases by 15-20%. The engine working life time rises on average by 35%. The spark- plugs life time increases for by 40%. The octane level of natural gas being 114 - 188 units, thus the engine detonation is eliminated.
Ecological effect
When the engine is operated on natural gas, the emissions of carbon oxide CO are reduced by 4-5 times, of nitric oxide CxHx - for 30- 40%, the exhaust opacity of diesel engines is reduced by 10 times.
The economists evaluate the pay-back period of the costs connected with the motor transport re-equipment for operation on compressed natural gas as follows:
- for carburetor automobiles - from 8 to 12 months;
- for gas - diesel automobiles - 24 months.
Automobiles operating on the compressed natural gas are divided into 2 groups according to their feed system:
Double-fuel - with the universal feed system and spark ignition system including two autonomous equivalent feed systems - petrol and gas. The application of the double- fuel system increases the automobile total run distance.
Gas-liquid - with the feed system in which the part of the liquid motor fuel (when the engine runs on compressed natural gas) is used as the igniting amount for air-gas mixture inflammation in engine (gas-diesels). Gas- liquid feed system is used for the diesel engines, 25% of diesel fuel and 75% of compressed natural gas are spent here.
The fuel is kept in the waterproof system, providing the automobile safe operation.
The gas cylinders are equipped with safety valves which are opened when the pressure grows.

The automobile re-equipment for operation on compressed natural gas (CNG) is carried out on the certified GBO (gas-cylinder equipment) stations, which are provided with highly qualified personnel and special equipment.
The re-equipment includes the installation of gas cylinders and gas equipment (reducer, electromagnetic valve, filling and intercepting valves, manometers, etc) connected by pipe manifold on the automobile.
The appropriate documents in accordance with the adopted form are given for the gas-cylinder equipment.
Natural gas is the most safe motor fuel on condition that your motor transport is re-equipped at the certified GBO (gas-cylinder equipment) stations of the "Tattransgaz", which has a license for installation, overhaul and servicing of gas-cylinder equipment.

The "Tattransgaz" uses domestically produced equipment for the automobile conversion on gas fuel because of its low cost and the spare parts accessibility.
Under the conditions of intensive operation of gas-cylinder motor transport and the following writing off, the gas-cylinder equipment is dismantled and after the appropriate servicing is installed on a new automobile. Thus the automobile owner's costs on the new equipment purchase are reduced.
