Stroytransgaz was amongst the leading Russian construction companies to develop and apply a Quality Management System in the fields of design, engineering, management, construction of pipelines, facilities of oil and gas complex and their infrastructure. In the course of the last 5 years Stroytransgaz has considerably enlarged and keeps enlarging the geography of its foreign projects.

Apart form these projects, Stroytransgaz successfully built the system of 8 branch gas pipelines of high pressure with the total length of 446 km to Greek Cities, "Samsun - Ankara" gas pipeline in Turkey. This is the pipeline, 1200 mm in diameter and 500 km long, constituting the Turkish part of "Russia - Turkey" ("Blue Stream") gas transportation system, 2 main gas pipelines in Finland. Stroytransgaz also took part in the construction of gas pipelines in the USA and Iran.

Stroytransgaz is bidding for the implementation of oil and gas projects in many countries of the world. At present the priority is given to the countries where Stroytransgaz has acquired already a good reputation for itself. The Company is also developing new prospects for the activity in the trritory of the Persian Gulf countries (the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Oman).

 

THE MAIN PROJECTS IN RUSSIA AND CIS

Stroytransgaz actively participates in providing of Russia's power security. The Company has implemented a number of projects which are of strategic importance for OAO Gazprom. Among them are the Russian/Byelorussian section SRTO-Torzhok of Yamal-Europe trunk gas pipeline, onshore segment of Russia-Turkey Blue Stream Project and triple-filament pipeline system Zapoliarnoye-Urengoy. Development of the worlds largest gas-condensate field Zapoliarnoye (100 BCMY) has been completed.

A large-scale program of construction of compressor station on trunk gas pipelines and booster compressor stations at Urengoyskoye and Yamburgskoye gas condensate fields is being performed. During the period from 1992 to 2005 54 compressor stations with the total instated capacity of 2933 MW were put into operation.

The construction of Karashourskoye underground gas storage in Perm region with the active capacity of 0.6 billion cubic meters is in progress. Its 1st and 2nd phases were commissioned in 2004 - 2005.

During 1998-2005 3974 km of gas distribution networks were constructed by Stroytransgaz with the purpose to supply gas to more than 350 settlements in Orel, Lipetsk and Astrakhan regions.

The management of scientific and technical development is a vital element of overall management system at Stroytransgaz. This activity defines a vector of the future development of the Company and ensures our technical competitiveness. The ratio of capital expenditures for the development of production to the total turnover of the Company in 2001 made up about 5%. This may be marked as a positive factor on carrying out technical policy of Stroytransgaz being typical for the figures of leading and dynamically developing companies of the world.

APPLYING HIGH TECHNOLOGIES FOR GAS AND OIL PIPELINE CONSTRUCTION

Crossings by a horizontal directional drilling method

Said technology allows to construct oil and gas pipelines and other communication installations across all kinds of obstacles – just passing under them. In the course of Russia-Turkey gas pipeline construction (Blue Stream Project) 6.0 km of river crossings by HDD method was performed. The longest one is 900 m long.

Construction of tunnel crossings of the Main Caucasian ridge

Construction of the first European standard tunnels in Russia for a high pressure main gas pipeline made it possible to minimize the harmful effect on the environment and ensure a reliable protection of the pipeline against corrosion and landslide. Three tunnel crossings of the Kobyla and Bezymianny ridges were constructed, with 2.1 m in diameter and correspondingly 2082, 988 and 196 m in length.

 

NEW ALL-SEASON TECHNOLOGY OF TESTS OF MAIN GAS PIPELINES

Tests of main gas pipelines

 

For the first time in the Arctic conditions during commissioning of a pipeline section 101.7 km long 1420 mm in diameter of the Zapoliarnoe – Urengoy gas pipeline during the winter season new technology of testing of pipelines was used which was elaborated by Stroytransgaz together with the experts of Research Engineering Company Ltd. "Buster" and Ltd. "SOTEGA". This technology provides for filling of the section under test with gas taken from the first line under operation and rising the pressure in it up to the test pressure of 8.25 MPa with the help of boosters. Two loopings of this pipeline 39 and 62.7 km long were tested during 17 days with the use of three self-propelled pumping and compressor units of UNG 8/15 type manufactured at the compressor plant of the "Borets" Joint-Stock Company. Flexible characteristics of gas compression provided by boosting pump and compressor units ensure at the unit outlet the required test pressure of the main gas with the capacity of 120 m3/min. In this case the pressure at the inlet of the unit may range from 5.9 to 7.4 MPa.

The elaborated technology allows one to ensure pumping of the gas after completion of testing from the gas pipeline section under test back to the gas pipeline under operation. Such a technology ensures considerable savings of natural gas and is much cleaner from the ecological point of view even in comparison with the tests when air or liquid (water) is used.

The most important advantage of the elaborated technology is the possibility to carry out strength and leak tests of pipelines in any weather conditions including arctic ones.

The elaborated technology can also be widely used during tests after performance of repairs on the gas pipelines under operation.

 

WELDING TECHNIQUES

Stroytransgaz has the most modern techniques and equipment for welding pipes of large diameter and this enables one to ensure high quality and reliability when executing the most vital operations during construction of pipelines.

The CRC-AW complex of automatic gas-arc welding

This technology is used for mass-scale welding of pipes at long sections by highly productive complexes equipped with computer system for monitoring the welding process and has a program control system for change of welding modes depending on spatial position of the welding head for each layer of the weld.

The Innershield technology

This is semi-automatic welding by using flux-cored wire. This technology is used particularly at very complicated sections of the route in severe climatic conditions.

Flash-butt welding

This technology is used for welding of pipes of large diameter in the Far North and enables one to exclude the influence of the weather and human factor on the quality of welding.

 

CONSTRUCTION AND RENOVATION OF COMPRESSOR AND BOOSTER STATIONS, BUILDING OF UNDERGROUND GAS STORAGE FACILITIES AND MODULES

Stroytransgaz take an active part in the constructing of mainline gas compressor stations of various capacity and other facilities of industrial and social infrastructure/

From 1995 to 2005 16 compressor stations with total capacity of 1117 MW were constructed at main gas pipelines.

From 1995 to 2005 21 booster compressor stations with total capacity of 1576 MW were constructed at Urengoy and Yamburg gas condensate fields.

From 1995 to 2005 18 main pipeline compressor stations with total capacity of 650 MW were renovated and upgraded using Tragaz Consortium equipment.

In the course of the Yamburg gas condensate field construction 252 super modules, each of 350 - 500 tons, were applied.

 

STROYTRANSGAZ-OIL EXPLORATION AND DEVELOPMENT OF OIL AND GAS FIELDS

Prospecting, exploration and production of oil and gas represents a new strategic field of Stroytransgaz activities, which is a principal shareholder of a number of enterprises on utilization of mineral resources in Orenburg, Astrakhan and Tver regions. Such activities are carried out by a subsidiary enterprise of Stroytransgaz - Stroytransgaz Oil Company.

The major project is the development of the licence area of the Severo-Astrakhanskoye oil field the reserves of which values at 450 million tons of oil and 144 billion cubic meters of gas. Stroytransgaz is carrying out exploration of the field on PSA basis with the ENI Group of Italy. At the moment the drilling of the first 6500 meters deep prospecting well has commenced.

In Orenburg region preparation works for the development of Kopansk and Berdyansk gas condensate field have begun. Under preparation for the development is also Chkalovskoye oil field.

In cooperation with Rosneft oil company Stroytransgaz carries out exploration works at licensed oil fields, block 245s in Algeria.

With the aim of comprehensive approach to the solution of problems regarding development of oil and gas fields, construction of gas pipelines and gasification of the regions of Russia Stroytransgaz has a number of industrial enterprises.

 

Kameshkovo Mechanical Plant (Vladimir region)

The Kameshkovo Mechanical Plant specializes in the manufacture of machinery and equipment used for pipeline construction including rotary trenching equipment, hydraulic line-up clamps, welding sets, horizontal drilling units, old coating removal machines, a wide spectrum of special tools, hydraulic drives.

 

Gazdevice Plant ( Moscow region)

Ultrasonic gas meter

 

The enterprise is one of the biggest gas meter manufacturers in Europe. The plant is outfitted with the most up-to-date automated assembly lines, diagnostic equipment and instrumentation, this making it possible to produce gas meters which conform to the best international standards. The production of ultrasonic gas meters with a prepayment card commenced in January, 2002.

Plant’s capacity allows producing of 1 million devices p.a. which, in its turn, reduces the terms of implementation of the abovementioned Program and fully covers the need for gas metering devices. Production of meters has started in 1998. Production processes passed complete certification in Russia and has already recommended itself as high quality product. The meters by all parameters correspond to the best world analogs. The quality control system was certified by certification agency TUV CERT.

Modular and Complete Self-contained Units Plant (Tyumen region)

Modular unit for the construction of oil and gas fields

 

Production and installation of modular units for the construction of oil and gas fields, power facilities and installations of housing and communal services.

The plant produces diesel generators, transformer substations, oil pumping units, deferrization stations, sewage disposal units, pumping units for industrial and fire fighting water supply, 0.1 - 8 MW boilers, 0.4 - 16 MW boiler houses, skeleton-type buildings and installations.

Is the manufacturer of quality trailing machinery for the transportation of wheel-track equipment and indivisible loads from 26 to 120 tons; special machinery - dump-trucks, chassis for the installation of various equipment, trailers and semi trailers for the transportation of bridge spans, timber logging for any haulers of Russian and foreign production.
