YAMAL SATELLITE COMMUNICATION SYSTEM
Yamal satellite communication system structure
JSC Gascom has designed and operates the Yamal Satellite Communication and Broadcast System. Yamal Satellite Communication and Broadcast System consists of ground and space segments.
The ground segment includes:
- satellite communication and broadcast networks for Gazprom numbering over 120 earth stations;
- three teleports: in Moscow (Gazprom's headquarter); in Koroliov, Moscow region (Gascom's headquarter); in Medvezhii Ozera, Moscow region;
- multichannel digital satellite TV broadcast system that includes satellite digital TV broadcast center and digital television network numbering more than 130 receive station;
- fiber-optic line connecting teleports in Moscow and Moscow region and providing switching to Gazprom's landline facilities and other operators' networks.
The space segment includes:
"YAMAL" COMMUNICATION AND DATA NETWORK
JSC Gascom is an operator of Yamal communication and data network including over 70 earth stations controlling by two teleports.
Satellite communication earth stations:
- Teleports (gateways)
- VSATs
- Multichannel hub stations
- Peripheral earth stations with few channels
Within Yamal System Gascom has deployed and deploys different satellite communication networks for JSC Gazprom and its subsidiaries (gas producing, transportation and marketing companies):
- Satellite technological communication network for Gazprom;
- Data network to connect local area networks of Gazprom subsidiaries;
- Telecommunication financial network in the interests of gas marketing and sales (Mezhregiongaz);
- Satellite digital broadcast network for AST-Prometei company;
- Satellite communication networks for Yamal-Europe and Goluboi potok (Blue Stream) gas pipelines, communication networks for Tumentransgaz, Burgaz, Zapsibgazprom companies;
- Communication and data network for gas-distribution stations;
- Communication and broadcast networks for commercial customers.
Teleports are the main communication network nodes. They provide landing of traffic transmitted from regional and peripheral earth stations.
Yamal satellite communication network includes two teleports, deployed by JSC Gascom and located in Moscow (Gazprom headquarter) and in Koroliov, Moscow region (Gascom headquarter). They provide communication and data networks monitoring and control.
Teleports have fiberoptic communication with Gazprom ground communication nodes, communication nodes of general use networks (M5, M9, M10) and Gascom Satellite Digital Television Broadcast Center.
"YAMAL" SATELLITE DIGITAL BROADCAST SYSTEM
General information:
The Yamal Satellite Digital Broadcast System is the primary distribution system. It consists of the following parts:
- Satellite Digital Television Broadcast Center;
- The space segment (satellite);
- Satellite digital television receiving stations;
- Regional distribution networks.
JSC Gascom is a designer and an operator of Yamal Satellite Digital Broadcast System.

INTERNET

JSC Gascom provides the Internet access via the satellite using the Frame Relay protocol. There is a possibility of using any router which support IP-traffic transmission over Frame Relay channels. Gascom provides a full range of additional services:
- domain name your_company.gascom.ru
- maintenance of secondary zone on Gascom DNS-servers
- mail box with the opportunity of access from Customer local network
- virtual www-server
- IP-addresses
- qualified personnel maintenance
The equipment of Cisco Systems company is recommended for connection (16xx-36xx routers with V.35 and Ethernet ports). In case of buying the equipment in Gascom a Customer will get a router ready for operation.
DIGITAL TELEVISION
Transmisiion of central digital TV chanels.
JSC Gascom is an operator of the Satellite Digital Broadcast System (licenses NN 3677, 11408) and provides such service as retransmisiion of TV programs (up to 7 programs in the package) on MPEG-2 standart.
Currently, broadcasting via Yamal-100 satellite of such programs as Federal TV channels "Kultura" and "Sport", NTV, TNT, DTV, TV-3, MTV, STS, TV channel Rambler TV, TV channel Shkolnik TV, TV channel SGU-TV and "Firs channel - World network" is arranged.

Translation of the national and regional TV and radio programs
For the organization of translation of national and regional TV and radio programs two transponders (3 and 4) are occupied on Yamal -100 Satellite, which can transmit 12 digital channels of the regional networks of satellite TV and radio broadcasting (mode SCPC). Typical decision includes transmitting station of the satellite TV broadcasting in the regional center (diameter 3,7m), which provides forming of the digital program and it's transmission to Yamal - 100 Satellite, Yamal-100 payload and network of receiving stations (diameter of antenna 2,0m).

General information:
Communication and broadcast satellite YAMAL-100 was launched into the orbit on September 6, 1999. The satellite was placed in the position 90 E.
YAMAL-100 satellite was built by Rocket-Space Corporation Energia named after S.P. Koroliov and JSC Gascom in cooperation with the leading foreign manufacturers – Space Systems/Loral and NEC.
Monitoring of the satellite is realized by JSC Gascom from the YAMAL Satellites Mission Control Center (Koroliov, Moscow region).

YAMAL-200 satellites are destinated to develop Gascom's space segment and will be placed in the orbital positions 49 E and 90 E.

Ground control complex includes:
Currently, Ground control complex provides a Yamal-100 satellite control. Ground complex facilities allow controlling three Yamal series satellites, and after a minimal upgrade there is a possibility to control up to 10 satellites in GEO orbital positions from 23° W to 98° E.
