The Higher School of Economics was founded in Moscow by the Decree of Russian Government on November 27, 1992.

The system of education at the HSE ensures the competitiveness of Russian education in its most urgently needed and, at the same time, weakest sphere – economics and social sciences.

The School was the first in Russia to adopt the commonly accepted world-wide “4+2” practice: four years of undergraduate study to earn a Bachelor’s Degree and two years of a Master’s Degree program.
