Chess player from Orenburg wins three gold medals in Europe

The Romanian city of Oradea hosted the 18th European Youth Rapid & Blitz Championship for chess players on August 1–4. Upwards of 350 participants under 18 years of age from 12 countries of the Old World competed in six age brackets. Russia was represented by 19 contestants.
Anna Shukhman, student of the children’s and youth sports school under the Gazovik Culture and Sports Palace, won three gold medals in individual matches for girls under 10 years old. Her school is sponsored by Gazprom Dobycha Orenburg.
The young Orenburg citizen came out victorious in rapid chess by winning nine games out of nine. She also achieved outstanding results in blitz and composition (solving chess problems), winning those tournaments as well.
In addition, Anna Shukhman and Galina Mikheeva (Salekhard) took silver in the team rapid chess tournament for girls under 12 years old.
Anna Shukhman is coached by Olga Sukhareva, senior coach at the Gazovik Culture and Sports Palace.
