Alexey Zavgorodnev is Director General of Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol.

He was born in Grozny in 1971.

Alexey Zavgorodnev was graduated from the Grozny Petroleum Institute, majoring in Oil and Gas Field Development and Operation.

His labor activity is entirely related to the gas industry. In Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol Alexey Zavgorodnev moved up the career ladder from an oil and gas operator to Director General.

He worked as an oil and gas production foreman, Head of Operation Service, Chief Engineer of the Stavropol Gas Production Center, and Director of the Stavropol Line Pipe Operation Center.

Alexey Zavgorodnev holds a PhD degree in Geological and Mineralogical Sciences. He is a Member of the Russian Federation Academy of Technological Sciences and a Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences.

Company history

Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is a long-standing Gazprom’s company. Its history started simultaneously with the rise of the natural gas industry.

Well No.1 – pioneer gas well in Severo-Stavropolskoye field

The discovery of the Severo-Stavropolskoye natural gas field in the 1940s – 1950s gave an impact to intense development of the country’s natural gas transmission system. It was the starting point of the first long-distance Stavropol – Moscow gas trunkline delivering Stavropol gas to the capital in late December 1956. That year is considered to be the official date of the company creation. In 1959 Stavropol gas was supplied to Leningrad and the industrial centers of the country’s European part, later on – to the Caucasus and Transcaucasia.

By the late 1980s, as the key natural gas fields came close to depletion in the Stavropol region, the company identified gas transmission as its core activity.

After 50 years Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is a strong production and business complex, one of the largest in the Unified Gas Supply System of Russia. The company transmits and delivers gas to consumers in southern Russia, Transcaucasian states and Turkey.

Major activities

Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol supplies natural gas to 10 regions of southern Russia and Transcaucasian states as well as to Turkey via the Blue Stream gas pipeline which starts in the company’s activity region.

The annual gas supplies total some 65 billion cubic meters. The gas pipelines length exceeds 7,950 kilometers. The company operates more than 300 gas distribution stations (GDS) including the GDS with Europe’s highest capacity, which is located in the town of Nevinnomyssk. 12 compressor stations with the total capacity of some 1,000 MW maintain operation of the gas transmission system.

Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol ranks as a national leader in implementation of the program promoting compressed natural gas (CNG) use as a motor fuel. The company successfully operates 13 CNG filling stations.

The company has 19 branches, including 10 line pipe operation centers.

Since 1993 the company has been running a metal-plastic and polyethylene production workshop that manufactures metal-plastic pipes and hoses which outperform metal analogues.

The continuous production development together with the efficient natural resources use and the environment conservation for future generations are the key principles of the Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol activities.

Nowadays, the introduction of the environmentally-oriented management systems is one of the main priorities for environmentally safe and sustainable development of the company. The environmental management system of Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol meets the ISO 14000:2004 international standard requirements.

Reflecting the company’s attitude towards natural environment and sustainable development principles, the environmental policy lays the basis for purpose-oriented planning of the company’s activities.

The production and environmental monitoring (PEM) system functions efficiently and includes a monitoring center, stationary and mobile environmental laboratories and emission control stations. The PEM system ensures collection, processing and storage of environmental data in the areas affected by the company’s production facilities.

Social policy

Some 7,500 people are employed by the company. Labor relations are regulated by the Collective Agreement set up on the basis of the Gazprom General Collective Agreement.

The company takes care of its employees, their family members and pensioners, makes arrangements for their recreation and cultural activities. 19 medical centers, sports and recreation facilities are available to the company’s employees as well as the Fakel recreation and retreat center with its branches in Kislovodsk and Yessentuki.

Under the Gazprom to Children program, 37 children sports and playgrounds have been constructed and reconstructed, computer science classrooms have been equipped and a swimming pool has been built. 4 sports grounds are planned to be constructed in the Republic of North Ossetia – Alania.

The employees are active participants of Gazprom’s corporate activities. The company’s personnel and their children enjoy art and sports clubs established in the Culture and Sports Center located in the Ryzdvyany gasmen settlement. The company’s art groups participate in the Fakel Festival of amateur creative teams and performers. Junior and adult teams in all kind of sports successfully defend the company’s athletic honor on the global, national and regional levels.

Charitable actions are an integral part of the company’s social activity. Support is given to children, sports and cultural institutions, public organizations as well as to individuals in need.

The key development prospects of the company are linked to implementation of the Gazprom programs in the Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol’s activity region, including the Comprehensive Program for Reconstruction and Technical Retrofit of the Gas Transmission Facilities and Compressor Stations, and the Program for Capital Overhaul of the Line Pipe Section of Gas Trunklines, Underwater Crossings and Gas Distribution Stations (GDS). The company is in charge to manage the Unified Gas Supply System Extension for Gas Supply to the South Stream Gas Pipeline project under which a new Workshop at the Salskaya compressor station will be constructed as well as a gas pipeline section of 270 kilometers length.

The company is also making efforts to:

  • perform pipeline and GDS inspections;
  • implement the Program for Comprehensive Repair of Compressor Station Flowlines for 2008–2012;
  • execute the Gazprom Program for Energy Saving and Cost Reduction when Operating Gas Transmission Facilities.

Gazprom Transgaz Stavropol is constructing the world’s highest mountain Dzuarikau – Tskhinval gas pipeline with its top located 3,200 meters above sea level.
