Company history

Gazprom Transgaz Kazan (former Tattransgaz) was incorporated in 1955 upon bringing into operation the Minnibaevo – Kazan gas trunkline, which became the third longest (after Saratov – Moscow and Dashava – Kiev – Moscow) in the USSR and the longest in Tatarstan among the gas pipelines built during the post-war period.

Over the 50 years of its existence the company has made a great contribution into the regional economy and social development.

Core businesses

The company is involved in the following core businesses:

  • gas trunkline operation;
  • low-pressure gas grid operation;
  • gas supply system engineering;
  • overhaul and renovation of the existing gas pipelines and gas facilities;
  • hydrocarbon feedstock transportation and distribution to Russian consumers.

Gazprom Transgaz Kazan annually distributes over 280 billion cubic meters of natural gas to the Russian Federation central regions, the CIS and European countries including over 14 billion cubic meters of gas to the Republic of Tatarstan. The gas infrastructure of Tatarstan is one of the largest in Russia. The share of natural gas exceeds 95 per cent in the fuel and energy complex of Tatarstan.

Environmental protection

Gazprom Transgaz Kazan is active in promoting the use of advanced resource- and energy-saving technologies and equipment that will cause no harm to the environment. This, first of all, relates to the conversion of motor vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG). The project has received various prizes at Russian and international forums and exhibitions.

More than 60 per cent of Gazprom Transgaz Kazan’s vehicles have already been converted to natural gas. Many industrial enterprises of Tatarstan have already studied the economic benefit of natural gas utilization as motor fuel and started adopting compressed gas vehicles in their car fleets.

By now, there are nine commissioned CNG filling stations in the Republic, which are located in Kazan, Naberezhnye Chelny, Nizhnekamsk, Mamadysh, Almetyevsk, Bugulma and Shemordan. A new CNG filling station is to be constructed in Buinsk. Being a part of Russia’s input into the “Blue Corridor” international project, CNG filling stations even now make it possible to fill transit cars in an uninterrupted mode.

In the near future Gazprom Transgaz Kazan is going to set to constructing an underground gas storage (UGS) facility. The leading engineering and R&D institutes, as well as specialized gas enterprises have been engaged in the project implementation. The UGS facility construction will rule out seasonal irregularities in gas supply and will meet the increasing natural gas demand of Nizhnekamsk Industrial Hub and enterprises of the “Alabuga” special economic zone.
