In 2007 Gazprom bought out the partners stakes and, after the company was renamed Gazprom Zarubezhneftegaz and became Gazprom’s wholly-owned subsidiary, it was empowered to conduct business on Gazprom’s behalf in Central and Southeastern Asia as well as in India.

In 2007 Gazprom EP International B.V. was registered in the Netherlands. The company’s goal was to represent Gazprom’s interests in the international upstream projects and in other regions, i.e. Africa and South America.

Therefore, Gazprom Group had two companies dealing with similar business tasks in different regions. Ultimately, that resulted in the necessity to unify the managerial, financial and collaborative mechanisms of these structural units under the principle of consolidated management.

In February 2011 Gazprom, with a view to streamline its project activities beyond Russia, adopted a decision to channel all foreign projects under control of one company – Gazprom EP International B.V., which was designated as the sole enterprise dealing with hydrocarbons prospecting, exploration and production beyond the Russian Federation.
