The idea to unite gas industry repair divisions emerged in 1970, when the Soyuzgazenergoremont Production Association (15 branch offices across the USSR) responsible for the repair of gas compressors was established. Initially, turbines were overhauled by the factories that produced compressors. However, Russia’s gas transmission system (GTS) is the world’s largest and much of it is located in the regions with a low population density and a challenging climate. Moreover, the unique GTS was built with gas compressors manufactured by dozens of domestic and foreign producers. So, those were the reasons behind the creation of a company that would be responsible for the repair of all gas compressors operating within the GTS.
The consolidation of Gazprom’s repair assets started in 2005. In April 2008, Gazprom’s Board of Directors resolved to establish the Gazprom Tsentrremont repair holding company.
At present, the holding company is composed of Tsentrenergogaz, Gazenergoservis, Gazprom Elektrogaz, Orgenergogaz, Tuymenskiye Motorostroiteli, Gazprom Podzemremont Orenburg, and Gazprom Podzemremont Urengoy, as well as industry-leading factories and branch offices across Russia. The holding company has over 20,000 employees.
Since January 1, 2009, Gazprom Tsentrremont has been responsible for organizing maintenance and repair services at all of Gazprom’s facilities. The company has developed a comprehensive engineering approach and created a unified system of Gazprom’s regulatory and technical documents, determining the procedure for organizing and performing all stages of maintenance and repair, from forward planning to facility commissioning.

Aiming to improve the efficiency of the reconstruction and modernization of the Unified Gas Supply System’s facilities under investment projects, in 2013 Gazprom made the decision to extend its engineering contractor service by involving Gazprom Tsentrremont in the activities covering gas trunklines, gas compressors, and auxiliary equipment at compressor stations of gas trunklines, booster compressor stations of gas facilities, compressor stations of underground gas storage (UGS) facilities, gas cooling stations, as well as downhole equipment.
Today, Gazprom Tsentrremont’s core activities include maintenance, inspection and repair, as well as construction and reconstruction of Gazprom’s facilities.
Much of the holding company’s work involves the repair of gas turbine engines and the production of spare parts.
As part of the 2011–2020 Program for Developing Russian UGS Facilities, the holding company is engaged in reconstructing the Stepnovskoye, Sovkhoznoye, Peschano-Umetskoye, Elshanskoye, Punginskoye, Moskovskoye and Kasimovskoye UGS facilities.

At present, Gazprom Tsentrremont makes a direct contribution toward improving the system of gas supply across Russian regions and gasification of areas remote from gas trunklines.
In late September 2015, control and distribution facility No. 16, the largest in Russia, was put onstream. The facility will supply gas to the south of Moscow and the Leninsky and Podolsky Districts of the Moscow Region.

Besides, Gazprom Tsentrremont participates in the implementation of the 2014–2017 Program for Reconstructing Gas Distribution Stations (GDSs). Currently, several GDSs located in the Moscow, Belgorod, Volgograd and Ivanovo Regions, as well as in the Republics of Tatarstan and Dagestan, are either being under reconstruction or entering the final pre-construction stage.
