History

In 2005 Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod (former Volgotransgaz) celebrated its 45th anniversary. The company has a wealth of history and unique traditions. Construction of the first gas pipeline in the company’s activity region (Almetyevsk – Gorky) for associated petroleum gas transmission from Tatarstan was completed in 1959. In 1960 the Saratov – Gorky gas pipeline was constructed and in the same year the Gorky Gas Trunkline Operation Directorate was set up.

The gas pipelines were operated by 8 regional directorates: Storozhevskoye, Penzenskoye, Pochinkovskoye, Arzamasskoye, Priokskoye, Vladimirskoye, Ivanovskoye and Rybinskoye. Large-scale construction of gas trunklines was deployed in the region between 1974 and 1990 in parallel with successful development of Gazprom Transgaz Nizhny Novgorod.
